Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher: Weekly Wrap Up

Representative Lizzie Fletcher

Dear Neighbor,

As the year draws to a close, I am glad to send this final weekly wrap up of the year from Houston.

At Home in Houston Header

It has been great to be back home in Houston this week, catching up with family, friends, and neighbors from across the district.  I’ve been all over TX-07 – from holiday celebrations in Fort Bend to holiday shopping at the Galleria.  From meeting with constituents in my district office to seeing them out and about celebrating the end of this eventful year, it has been a wonderful week.  I’m glad to highlight a few of this week’s milestones and events here.

U.S. Small Business Association (SBA) Houston Region Director Tim Jeffcoat is retiring at the end of this year, and I dropped by his retirement party to present a certificate of appreciation.  Tim and his team at the Houston SBA have been such a great resource for our district, especially these last few years.  We will miss him!

On Tuesday, I got to deliver more good cheer to seniors across TX-07 in the form of 800 Winter Wishes, handmade holiday cards from students, teachers, and neighbors in our community.  We had an incredible response from our TX-07 community, and I am grateful to everyone who participated and helped spread holiday cheer, especially the students and teachers at Chambers Elementary School, Collins Elementary School, and Petrosky Elementary School in Alief ISD, Rodriguez Elementary School and West University Elementary School in HISD, and the Academy of Accelerated Learning at Chimney Rock.

On Wednesday, I joined Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, Houston City Council Member Tiffany Thomas, International Management District Chairman Wea Lee, and City of Houston representatives to announce a $10.1 million federal grant awarded to the International Management District and the Greater Northside Management District to improve road safety.  This grant was made possible because of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program, which funds initiatives to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries by improving the safety and quality of our roads and sidewalks.  I was glad to vote for the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act two years ago, and I am thrilled to see these investments arriving in our community today.

Like every other week, our team has been out and about in the district and working hard in Washington meeting with constituents and making sure we respond to your phone calls and letters before the year is out.

It is hard to believe that this year is coming to an end.  As this will be my last Weekly Wrap Up of 2023, I want to take a moment to thank you for reading these weekly emails and to thank the incredible team we have working for TX-07 that has helped make it possible to do the work and to share it with you each week.  Next Friday, you will receive my annual report, which I am excited to share.

And as a reminder, I won’t be able to send these emails to people who have not signed up to receive them most of January and February because of the rules of the House.  So, if you don’t want to miss a wrap up—or you aren’t sure whether you are signed up—please take a minute to sign up here.

Our office will be closed until Wednesday, January 3 to observe and celebrate the holidays and prepare for the busy year ahead.  Our team will be checking messages in case emergency assistance is needed.  We look forward to continuing to hear from you and to help you in 2024.

12.22 Christmas
12.22 Kwanzaa

I am honored and proud to represent you.  I look forward to hearing from you, seeing you, and partnering with you in the new year.  Until then, I send warm wishes for a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year!

Best wishes,

Lizzie Fletcher Signature

Our Service Plan

Projects for the first ten years will focus on mobility and transportation, environmental and urban design, public safety, and business development.

Our Projects

The International Management District is undergoing a transformation from being the western extension of Houston’s Chinatown or, as some prefer, Asiatown, to a broader American and international community ideally suited to working, shopping, dining and living. To help bring about this change, the District has several major improvement projects underway or planned to enhance mobility, attractiveness and quality of life in the community.
