Arab American
purple day

Each year in April, we take time to recognize and celebrate the children of military families and their important role in the armed forces community. Alief ISD is proud to honor the strength, resilience, and sacrifices of our military-connected students and their families. These remarkable children often face unique challenges such as frequent relocations, parental deployments, and adapting to new environments.

Join us in showing support by wearing purple on Purple Up Day – Tuesday, April 15. The color purple represents all branches of the military and symbolizes our unity in recognizing these incredible students.

Congratulations to Our MVP Award Recipients!

We’re proud to recognize the outstanding employees and students who have been selected as MVPs during March and April: Lisa Gutierrez (Instruction Department), Edward Johnson (Taylor HS), Ronald Harris (Elsik HS), Alicia Kerr (SOAR/LINC/NHS), Charles Price (ALC), Yolanda Thomas (Olle MS), Kristin Gartman (Special Education Department), Zelma Huanca (Hicks ES), Abel Hadgu (Holub MS), and Shannell Blanton (Mata IS).

Kerr High School Teacher and Alumni Featured in National Art Education Magazine

We’re proud to share that Keri Reynolds, an art educator at Kerr High School, has been featured in the April 2025 issue of School Arts magazine, a nationally recognized publication for art educators.

The article, titled Revisiting the Sketchbook, Part Two,” highlights one of Ms. Reynolds’ dynamic instructional lessons and showcases the artistic talents of two of her former students: Dannia Pisqui, a 2024 graduate of Elsik High School, and Gabriel Martinez, a 2023 graduate. Their work stands as a powerful testament to the impact of meaningful art education and the creative excellence being cultivated in Alief ISD classrooms.

“Let’s Make It Clear” Backpack Policy

In an effort to improve the safety measures currently in place, beginning with the 2025-2026 school year and beyond, Alief ISD will require all intermediate, middle, and high school students to use clear backpacks.

Students participating in an extracurricular activity are permitted to carry non-transparent bags to store items pertaining to their particular activity (i.e., band, athletics, etc.).

All extracurricular activity bags must be stored in designated areas upon entry into the school and are subject to search.

Additionally, the maximum size for non-transparent bags that students in intermediate, middle, and high school will be permitted to carry during the school day, such as lunch kits, pencil bags, and purses, will be “6 x 9”.

Elementary school students will be allowed to continue using traditional backpacks.
