Superintendent Dr. Anthony Mays’ Week Ahead – September 8, 2025

This past week, I had the opportunity to watch Taylor High School compete against one of our neighboring high schools. I enjoyed the sense of community as parents yelled and cheered to support our students. Our students in the crowd enjoyed the opportunity to yell and encourage each other as we competed on the football field. Our cheerleaders were energetic and worked to keep the audience enthusiastic and supportive of our student athletes. The Taylor High band was on point with precision sound that kept the audience moving. We even had students engaged in the fun while also learning as they worked the sidelines for interviews and action shots with their cameras.

Alief ISD offers numerous opportunities for students to engage positively. These engagement opportunities have lifelong implications for our students, so let’s encourage all students to connect with an organization or activity at every campus.

Recently, I had an opportunity to speak on Fox 26 News (fast forward to the 29-minute mark for the Alief ISD segment) about the fantastic work of the Alief ISD team. I am excited about this year! I am excited to “Be all in with Alief ISD”!

Alief Alum Spotlight nomination form

Military & First Responders Appreciation Night – September 26

Military and First Responders Appreciation Night in Alief ISD has been set for Friday, September 26, at Crump Stadium for the Hastings vs. Elsik football game.

This is the night that Alief ISD honors employees who are first responders, active duty, or military veterans.

These employees are invited to attend a pre-game reception and meal starting at 5 p.m. (the game kicks off at 7 p.m.), followed by an on-field presentation.

Please RSVP here by Tuesday, September 16, if you wish to attend, and indicate how many family members are attending with you.

September 10th: World Suicide Prevention Day

September is recognized as Suicide Prevention Month, with World Suicide Prevention Day observed annually on September 10th. On this day, we honor the cause by wearing yellow. This issue is increasingly urgent, as the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that a person takes their own life every 40 seconds. This year’s theme focuses on “Changing the Narrative on Suicide.”

Let us unite with our family, friends, and colleagues to raise awareness about the importance of reducing stigma and fostering open conversations surrounding suicide prevention. I encourage everyone to wear yellow on September 10th in support of this vital initiative.

Alief ISD MVP 2025-2026 Awards Nomination Form

Each month, one student, two teachers, and two support staff will be selected as an MVP Award winner by their peers.

These winners are chosen based on evidence of their support of customer service and positive climate and culture in Alief ISD, and they will be celebrated during our next regular board meeting.

We encourage our stakeholders to submit the MVP Award Submission by September 24th, 2025.

Parents are encouraged to review the characteristics of Gifted and Talented students and complete the nomination form by September 30, 2025, to have their child considered for testing.

Join us for an engaging family-friendly STEAM Day designed to inspire curiosity and hands-on learning. The event will feature dynamic rotations reflecting a day with CIA programs, providing fun and educational activities for both students and their families.
