What an exciting weekend for Alief ISD. Sunday night, Abigail Eliezer, Klentzman Art Teacher won the HEB Lifetime Achievement Award. We are extremely proud to have an Alief educator representing the state of Texas as one of the best. I always say-we have what we need right here in Alief to meet the needs of our students. Mrs. Eliezer is an Alief ISD jewel making us all proud and bringing 25K to her students and team at Klenztman Intermediate. Congratulations to Principal Tukes, Mrs. Eliezer, and the team on their success. We are proud of you and this outstanding accomplishment.
Two of the greatest factors of student success are the teacher and principal. It is a huge calling to serve in either of these roles. An experience with a great teacher or principal can be life altering for any student. Kudos to Principal Brandan Clark and her intentional work to improve literacy at Best Elementary.
We need educators who believe in the magic that can happen in the classroom to help us meet student needs. I encourage everyone to share the opportunity to join the Alief family on your socials. We are always looking for talented teachers to serve the needs of our community and students.
Cinco de Mayo is more than just a celebration—it’s a tribute to resilience and cultural pride. Observed on May 5th, this day commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Today, it serves as a vibrant celebration of Mexican heritage, culture, and contributions to our communities. Alief ISD proudly honors the rich traditions, history, and spirit of unity that Cinco de Mayo represents.
It’s Teacher Appreciation Week! Our teachers are among the best in the nation, and we are grateful for their dedication to providing an excellent education for our students every day. Thank you, teachers, for making Alief ISD such a wonderful place to learn and grow. #WeAreAlief

Alief ISD Students Explore STEM Careers at Arcadis Houston Office
We extend our sincere gratitude to Arcadis and the Alief ISD Education Foundation for the opportunity to participate in an inspiring Career Day at their Houston office. Organized by Principal Environmental Engineer and Project Manager Ruben Lopez, Secondary Science Coordinator Dr. Karen Jacobs, and Public Relations Specialist and Education Foundation Liaison Li Wen Su, this experience gave 20 high school STEM seniors a unique look into the world of engineering, sustainability, and innovation.
Students learned about Arcadis’ mission of improving quality of life and explored diverse career paths across the company’s global business areas. A heartfelt thank you to the 23 Arcadians who generously volunteered their time and expertise to mentor and connect with our future leaders. This meaningful partnership is a wonderful example of how Arcadis is giving back to our Houston community.
Alief ISD Fine Arts Students Partner with METRO to Enrich Houston’s Public Spaces
Alief ISD is proud to highlight a meaningful collaboration between our Fine Arts Department and METRO, aimed at celebrating student creativity and enhancing public spaces throughout the city. Under the leadership of Dr. Keri Reynolds, Alief ISD High School Fine Arts Lead, students from across the district created original artwork now displayed at METRO bus shelters across Houston.
This initiative was made possible through the support and coordination of Luis Garcia, METRO’s Senior Public Engagement Representative, whose commitment to community collaboration helped bring this vision to life. The partnership not only showcases the exceptional artistic talent of Alief ISD students but also reflects the district’s dedication to arts education and civic engagement.
We are honored to see our students’ creativity on display in our city, serving as a source of pride and inspiration for the entire community.

“Let’s Make It Clear” Backpack Policy
In an effort to improve the safety measures currently in place, beginning with the 2025-2026 school year and beyond, Alief ISD will require all intermediate, middle, and high school students to use clear backpacks.
Students participating in an extracurricular activity are permitted to carry non-transparent bags to store items pertaining to their particular activity (i.e., band, athletics, etc.).
All extracurricular activity bags must be stored in designated areas upon entry into the school and are subject to search.
Additionally, the maximum size for non-transparent bags that students in intermediate, middle, and high school will be permitted to carry during the school day, such as lunch kits, pencil bags, and purses, will be “6 x 9”.
Elementary school students will be allowed to continue using traditional backpacks.
