Starting a business can be both an exciting and daunting journey.
If you have an innovative business idea but are unsure how to turn it into a solid, actionable plan, the StartSmart series might be just what you need.
Through collaboration among several organizations, 11 local entrepreneurs recently participated in a workshop in the International District.
In addition to the District, UH SBDC, SURE CDFI, and Regions Bank helped contribute to a well-rounded educational and practical program.
Daniel Luu, Executive Director of SURE CDFI, said future workshops are being planned.
The StartSmart series is designed for startup business owners, regardless of where they are in their journey. Whether you’re just brainstorming your idea or stepping into the next phase of your venture, this program is tailored to meet your needs.
Luu said that, from the class in the International District, one participant received funds once she completed her business plan. Another participant reported gaining insight from a local restaurant owner.
Indeed, expert guidance from industry professionals and SBDC advisors is just one aspect of the Start Smart Business Plan Series.

Each session also combines brief lectures with practical activities. This unique format lets you work directly on your business plan while receiving real-time feedback.
And, of course, a well-thought-out financial plan is essential for securing funding from banks or investors. StartSmart participants develop comprehensive financial projections and funding strategies that make their proposals attractive to lenders.
One of the standout features of the StartSmart series is that there is absolutely no cost to sign up. Participants can use this opportunity to turn their business idea into a bankable plan without worrying about financial barriers.
If you’re ready to take the first step toward launching or growing your business, consider joining the StartSmart series. With expert advice, practical activities, and a supportive network, you’ll be well on your way to transforming your idea into a successful business.
